New to advancement

Working in advancement isn’t just a job — it’s a way to help others achieve their dreams and contribute to a better world. And you don’t need prior experience in advancement to find your place here. People across the Illinois Advancement community bring a wide range of skills and experiences.

The Employee Experience team in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement ensures that new staff feel welcomed, supported, and set up for success from day one. Through a thoughtful onboarding experience and ongoing check-ins, they help you build confidence, find your footing, and connect with the people and work around you.

There are so many ways to contribute, from front-line fundraising to stewardship to communications and more. We can help you identify the path that fits your strengths and goals — and show you how your experience can translate into meaningful work in advancement.

Joining the LAS Advancement team has been an incredible experience. From day one, the warmth, friendliness, and support of my colleagues made my transition into my new role at the University of Illinois seamless. I’m grateful for the encouragement I’ve received and excited to contribute to such an outstanding, collaborative team as I continue to grow in this role.
