Our approach

At Illinois, advancement is a team effort. Colleges, units, central staff, and partners across the university work together, building relationships with alumni and donors to support what matters most. By aligning around shared goals, we turn ideas into real, meaningful support for our campus community.

Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (OVCIA)

The OVCIA is a university-level office that works in close cooperation with advancement employees embedded in our colleges and units to support philanthropy at Illinois.

The OVCIA is comprised of teams that support fundraising, engagement, and operations across the community and is responsible for leading strategic efforts in major and principal gifts, stewardship, donor relations, annual giving, and engagement. In addition, OVCIA partners with colleges and units to recruit and support advancement staff and to provide planning and data insights that strengthen fundraising efforts across campus.

Chief Advancement Officers operate within a dual-reporting model — partnering closely with their dean while aligning with the OVCIA — to ensure both unit-level goals and university-wide strategy move forward in tandem.
